HTTPS Explained for Non-Technical Owners
The padlock is not decoration: what it does to trust, order forms, and Google rankings.

What SSL does
SSL encrypts data between visitor and site (https + padlock). Without it, Chrome labels the page "Not Secure" — the number-one trust killer, especially on order pages.
The real impact
- Order/payment forms without HTTPS scare data away.
- Google gives a small free ranking boost to HTTPS.
- Certificates are free now (Let's Encrypt) with auto-renewal — no excuse left.
A 1-minute check
- Open your site and look for the padlock.
- Click it: "Connection is secure" with a valid certificate.
- Check the http:// version redirects to https.
A plain-http site in 2026 is today's homework, not next quarter's.
